CODE OF CONDUCT FOR HELENA YOUTH SPORTS

Youth sports are supposed to be fun for the children. Unfortunately, many parents, fans and coaches don’t realize that their actions, whether verbal or nonverbal, can have a lasting emotional effect on children. Too many children are leaving sports activities because the fun is unfairly taken away by adults. The City of Helena has created the following Code of Conduct for coaches, parents, and spectators to abide by at every game.

I therefore agree:

  • I will not force my child to participate in sports.
  • I will remember that children participate to have fun and that the game is for youth, not adults.
  • I will inform the coach of any physical disability or ailment that may affect the safety of my      child or the safety of others.
  • I will learn the rules of the game and the policies of the league.
  • I (and my guests) will be a positive role model for my child and encourage sportsmanship by showing respect and courtesy, and by demonstrating positive support for all players, coaches, officials and spectators at every game, practice, or other sporting event.
  • I (and my guests) will not engage in any kind of unsportsmanlike conduct with any official, coach, player, or parent such as booing and taunting; refusing to shake hands or using profane language or gestures.
  • I will not encourage any behaviors or practices that would endanger the health and well-being of the athletes.
  • I will teach my child to play by the rules and to resolve conflicts without resorting to hostility or violence.
  • I will never ridicule or yell at any participant for making a mistake or losing a competition.
  • I will promote the emotional and physical well-being of the athletes ahead of any personal desire I may have for my child to win.
  • I will respect the officials and their authority during games and will never question, discuss, or confront coaches at the game field, and will take time to speak with coaches at an agreed upon time and place.
  • I will refrain from coaching my child or other players during games and practices unless I am one of the official coaches of the team.

I also agree that if I fail to abide by the rules and guidelines, I will be subject to disciplinary action that could include, but is not limited to the following:

  • Verbal warning by official, or park staff
  • Written warning
  • Parental game suspension with written documentation of incident kept on file
  • Game forfeit through the official League
  • Parental season suspension

COACH SPORTSMANSHIP

  • All players, coaches, managers, sponsors, and spectators are expected to always conduct themselves in a sportsmanlike manner. The City of Helena Park and Recreation staff has the authority to remove anyone from the event at any time for unsportsmanlike conduct. Any player, coach, manager, sponsor, or spectator whose conduct is unbecoming or abusive shall, at a minimum, be reprimanded with a warning. If warranted, the offending party shall exit the facility at the discretion of the Umpires and Park staff.

  • Any coach, manager, sponsor, or spectator ejected from a game shall immediately remove themselves from the vicinity of the playing field and / or grandstands for the remainder of the game. Additional penalties may be assessed at the discretion of the Helena Park and Recreation Department.

  • City of Helena Park staff reserves the right to deny entry or participation to any person that poses a risk to the health and safety of other participants, officials, or spectators and/or whose conduct violates any applicable code of conduct, or whose conduct is otherwise disruptive or disorderly.

  • ALCOHOL, TOBACCO & TOBACCO RELATED PRODUCTS -The use of ANY alcohol, tobacco, or any electronic smoking devices such as e-cigarettes, vape pens or atomizers shall be prohibited by all participants (including but not limited to players, manager, coaches, umpires) within the confines of the playing field.

NEW BAT RESTRICTIONS FOR 2012 AND BEYOND

Bat Performance Factor (BPF) is the standard for bat safety. BPF is a measure of a non-wood bat’s performance relative to wood bats. Most non-wood bats manufactured over the past year or 2 have been permanently imprinted with the BPF on the taper of the bat. To comply with the new regulation, EFFECTIVE JANUARY 1, 2012, non-wood bat must (1) display a BPF of 1.15 or less or (2) be a qualified BBCOR bat or (3) be a wood bat in order to be legal for Metro sanction play for ages 14U and younger.

Note: BBCOR – Batted Ball Coefficient of Restitution. This is the new, more-accurate test that is replacing BESR. Like BESR, it is used to ensure that aluminum and composite bats play similarly to wood bats, but it also accounts for how bats perform after they’ve been broken in.
